  Capturing problem, timecode thing again

  Still in the trenches with this. So today did test on fresh tape, just shot 1/2 hour of the couch. Go to capture and still says waiting for timecode, and then wont work.

  Now, it will capture IF, I start the tape and then click on Capture Now. It’s just frustrating that if I don’t start the tape, I get this message waiting for timecode, real strange.

  And also, notice that the software freezes up a lot and also ejects the external HD, which is a whole nother issue. any ideas appreciated thanks

  According to your profile, you’re running FCP 3. what type of media are you capturing? How is the device connected to the Mac?

  If your external HD is ejecting, that’s a really really big issue and that will affect your capturing ability if that is your Scratch Disk.

  I would address the external hard drive issue first and when that is stable, see if that helps out your capture issue.

  You need at least 10 seconds. Change the 00:00:00:00 timecode to 00:00:10:00 and you should be good to go. You probably have a 3 second preroll and then add a second or two for handles and a few seconds are needed for slop.

  I just moved to FCP Express HD — and just updated that on my profile. osX 10.4.2

  I had fcp3 but it would not work with Tiger… and now I’m wondering if this software is a bit buggy, to say the least. At least with capturing, and communicating with camcorders, it’s ejects hard drives, freezes up, and freezes up whole computer.

  HEre the weird part Walter, the HD ejecting was not even the one set as scratch disc, but you are right, it’s really bizarre. Anyone else have ideas on this??

  I’m wondering. With all problems I’m having, does FCP need to know the specific camcorder you are communicating with? Is there a special driver needed to tell FCP the deck/camcorder you are using?

  What do you mean you need at least 10 seconds. Are you saying I should, perhaps, forward 10 seconds first, off bat?
  Also, how do I change the timecode? I thought that is, if you will, engraved in the tape and not alterable.
