How to disable Letterbox on 16:9 fooatge capture in 5.02

This isn’t FCP’s fault. It is most likely the way the camera shoots 16×9. Some shoot native 16×9, and squeeze the image, also known as anamorphic. Others simply use the 4×3 frame, and letterbox the footage into a 16×9 ratio…while it looks 16×9, it is in actuality, 4×3.

But, it depends on the camera. What camera are we talking about here?

Thanks but,

MySony DSR 2000 Stuio deck encoded the tape as 16:9 fooatge,(a menu option) so that when
FCP sees it through Firewire it thinks it needs to letterbox it.

What I was looking for is a feature that Imovie has in its preferances which disables the
letterboxing.

as it is my 4:3 footage is being squeezed and looks distorted.

any one has experience with this?

Look in the Bin where that clip is stored….scroll to the right until you get to the ANAMORPHIC column. uncheck it.
