How to disable Letterbox on 16:9 fooatge capture in 5.02
Posted by Faryar Mansuri on October 25, 2005 at 11:46 pmWe are trying to capture fooatge that FCP sees as widescreen (embedded wide signal on DV tape) and thus it automatically
letterboxes it.
how can one disable this?thanks

October 26, 2005 at 12:17 amThis isn’t FCP’s fault. It is most likely the way the camera shoots 16×9. Some shoot native 16×9, and squeeze the image, also known as anamorphic. Others simply use the 4×3 frame, and letterbox the footage into a 16×9 ratio…while it looks 16×9, it is in actuality, 4×3.
But, it depends on the camera. What camera are we talking about here?

October 26, 2005 at 3:31 amThanks but,
MySony DSR 2000 Stuio deck encoded the tape as 16:9 fooatge,(a menu option) so that when
FCP sees it through Firewire it thinks it needs to letterbox it.What I was looking for is a feature that Imovie has in its preferances which disables the
letterboxing.as it is my 4:3 footage is being squeezed and looks distorted.
any one has experience with this?
thanksfaryar
