  Getting blacks really black in h.264 compression. How to?

  I am trying to emulate the blacks that apple seems to be able to get in their keynote quicktime events. When I take my original footage where the blacks look really good and compress them with h.264 the blacks and other colors seem to fade and become muted. I have tried using Sorenson and i get much better saturation in the colors. But i want to use h.264 for the size/quality benefits. I have also tried using the filter to boost saturation within the h.264 compression options and that causes pixeling when there is movement on the screen.

  How does apple get their blacks so black?

  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  Compression programs have Black and White Resoration to get the blacks (and whites) back to their pre-NTSC RGB 0-255 place (or to
  get it to any look you want).
  Squeeze has it in Filters/Darken. Right click and edit settings. Compressor has it in Filters. Compression Master has it as a tab in Video.
  In Cleaner it’s in the Adjust tab, and so on. They all affect the blacks a little differently, so play with the settings to get what you want.
