  Does the video card act as an accelerator in FCP as it does in motion? Just curious if getting a better card would result in more RTExtreme/Faster render times.

  Not in this generation of FCP. You gain an itty little bit of display assistance in certain conditions using Tiger’s CoreVideo services but they are not hooked into the application to boost rendering or processing. Hopefully, FCP6 or 5.5 will have hooks into the advanced capabilities of the new generation of graphics cards. However, we’ve been counting on it since Motion1 shipped 18 months ago.
