there’s an app that can add a timecode text track to qt movies. Unfortunately, it does not seem to work correctly with FCP made timecode tracks. To add a timecode display, you must delete the FCP TC tracks and manualy add another, because the “toggle display timecode” does not seem to work with FCP TC tracks. But you can still read the timecode at a specific frame with this app with “Show current timecode”.

the good news is that there’s a pc version.

This works with QT 6.5 PRO on a mac or PC. Open the QT file. Get movie properties. Select the video track from the left drop down and time code from the right drop down. You willl see off-tape time displayed. Might have to buy QT pro for your transsciber.

    Hi Joe,

Your response is awesome news! I immediately bought Quicktime Pro, but I’m a bit confused. I went to “movie properties”. You then said to “Select the video track from the left drop down and time code from the right drop down. You will see off-tape time displayed”. I select the video track but I’m not sure what the “left drop down” is. And what is the “right drop down”? I’ve tried these steps with both a mac and pc but it doesn’t seem intuitive. Please take me step by step. I really appreciate this!

    Alexander
