I have a studio with 6 G5 editing bays all with FCP 5 on them. We are sharing the same serial number so needless to say one must unplug the network before going on with their work. I purchased more serials this last week to remedy this problem. I want to re-serialize these progs without having to re-install. I thought this was possible to do this without having to reinstall…. anyone out there know….

    Call Apple.
Read the docos that came with your serial numbers.
AFAIK, there is no way to change a serial number without reinstalling since the serial is entered before the installation script runs.

thank you! I thought there was a way to do that for other programs, so i thought there might have been a chance for FCP as well

have you tried to throw away the FCP System ID file, FCP prefs and then restart your machine?
then try running the updater. it should then ask for a valid serial number for the updater.

Gary, great suggestion, missed that one.
Looking back over my collection, FCP3 (one full retail and one upgrade from FCP2), FCP4 (two upgrades from FCP3) and a new Production Suite for FCP4, the numbers all have slightly different formats.
