  • which “film look” software best?

Posted by Ken Zukin on October 13, 2005 at 4:46 pm

I shot a university football game with a Panasonic SDX900 using the 24P setting. The footage turned out nicely.
I now have to incorporate some SD footage shot in the 60i mode that looks appropriately “video-like.”

I’m hoping to “treat” the interlaced 60i footage so that it looks more “film like.”

I know there are a lot of options out there. Anybody care to chime in on what looks best???

    Thanks in advance,

    Ken Zukin

I really like G Film, it does a really good job.

I prefer Boris Continuum complete as it has a lot of other filters as well as Film.

    Nattress makes killer filters too.

But the real key is bringing the 60i footage down to 24p to match the “look” of the rest of your footage. I generally do that in After Effects.

G Film, or more correctly “Nattress Film Effects” is available from http://www.nattress.com There’s a free demo and the best darn tech support in the business. It will do everything you need and more to make your 60i video look like film, including excellent 60i to 24p.

I have been link the color correction options that Magic Bullet Editors have. But they cannot convert 30i to 24P. Really Nattress is the way to go there.

Thanks Peter. Those spots looked awesome.

You can also see Film Effects in use on Fox Sports Baseball playoffs. They’re using a customised version of Nattress Film Effects, along with a beta of a new 760p60 to 720p24 plugin which should go out with the next free update to Film Effects.

Walter how do you take 29.97 or 60 and make it have a 24p feel in AE?
