• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  New user of FCP

  Hello, I just purchased a G5 Dual 2.0 with 2GB Ram. I also purchased Final Cut Studio. I am looking for suggestions as to the best way to become familiar with using FCP. I am considering purchasing the Apple Pro Training Series for Final Cut Pro. I would appreciate any advice for a new guy trying to learn how to work in the FCP environment. I know that I have a very steep learning curve, but am willing to dive in! I am very excited but looking for suggestions for getting started.

  There are tutorials that come with FCP. Thats a good place to start.

  Are you an experienced editor already?

  If so, FCP is a fantastic creative tool, as complex or as simple as you want.

  If you’re not an editor yet, there is a whole lot you should get to know about the basic “craft” of editing… whether its FCP or just a razor blade and an old 8mm film home movie.

  Thank you for the response. I am still waiting to receive FCP, thus I did not know that it comes with tutorials. I am new to video editing, so I will be taking baby steps. Just looking for the best place to start. Thanks again for the responses, any advice from you experienced editors is much appreciated.

  Ripple Training is a great one (www.rippletraining.com). Another very good resource is DTMS (www.digitalmediatraining.com). These are two that I highly recommend for training DVDs. Both have a very strong selection of tutorials that can help you get up and running. Another awesome resource is attending trade shows like NAB in April. They have the Post Production World Conference and its an awesome resource for learning about FCP. You can also get you certifications there. Give that a shot.
