  Problems in FCP — 5.0.1

  We are running dual 2Ghz- G5s with 2 Gb of Ram. 10.4.1 and fcp5.0.1

  I tried to capture off of the DV decks…In log & capture the “preview
  disabled” (with colorbars) is displayed in capture window– DV decks respond
  with “VTR OK”, deck controls in window work/access the deck. Timecode is
  showing up. But we cannot capture any video. Firewire deck is present in
  “about this mac”–

  The NTSC monitors are intercepting the signal–showing the correct footage.
  FCP will just not feed the signal through. It also showcases the “cannot
  detect firewire device” warning…

  ALSO

  It has also shown full black screen flashes when trying to
  click buttons in FCP– almost every other click of the mouse. Making it
  totally inaccessible.

  The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

  A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

  I bet you have upgraded your systems, and not done a clean install. Unfortunately it is recommended to do a clean install when upgrading to tiger and QuickTime 7. Getting a brand new drive and installing everything from the ground up will produce the most trouble free results. If you have upgraded without a clean install, see this document:

  It will restore your firewire connection in FCP5.x & qt 7.x
