    Hello,

I’ve been asked to make a parody of the ipod ad (silhouettes dancing in front of colorful backgrounds, with white headphones). Can anybody give me advice on how to execute this in FCP5? My main concern is retaining the white headphones.

The footage is being shot in front of a green screen. I have a brief time to relay any information to the dp. I have Motion 2, but I’m not too experienced with it. I don’t have AE.

    Thanks!

Maybe a way would be to have the talent wear a blue or a red stocking/ski-mask on his/her face (and then you’d be able to have a separate key pass), but I suppose you’d lose some of the facial silhouette detail.

Or I suppose you could hand roto the headphones with Commotion, Curious gFX, or (what is the new one?) Silhouette or something? (This is a good compositing question for Matt Silverman over at the Commotion forum here at the Cow.)

Just a guess here, shoot on the green screen, paint all exposed skin and hair flat black and have them wear flat black clothing, then use all white ipod type gear. Worst case, paint the ipod and headphones Chroma Key Blue from roscoe and key it seperate, but I bet the white will work if you can reduce or incorporate the highlights on the talent. Absolute worst case, you’ll have 3 distinct colors for seperate keys.

https://www.fxsupply.com/bn_catalog/bn_hair.html or google for Ben Nye or Theatrical Makeup for body and hair makeup.

I’ve wanted to try this, but havn’t had the chance to.

    Thanks,
    Gary

thanks. Having the talent wear all black is a good idea. There’s one small catch though, at the end of the clip, the lights come on to reveal their faces. Bodypaint won’t do; but then again, the talent isn’t white.
