Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Audio Dropouts

    Hi,
I’m having audio dropouts upon capture. The video is fine but a get a frame here and there that the audio drops out competely. Sometimes it sounds as if there is a bit of high pitch static or squelch for a frame.

The audio is fine on the tape and plays fine thru the deck. I have recaptured footage with “Capture Now” setting and it is usually fine, but even that hasn’t worked this time.

This has happened on different tapes, shot w/ different cameras and mics. Captured with different decks and all is fine on the tape.

Is it a firewire issue? I tried capturing to an external Lacie 500gig FW drive and to the internal drive. Same issue appears. Never had this problem when capturing to my G4 Powerbook.
    It’s very frustrating.

I’m thinking I need to get a FW PCI card and hope that alleviates the issue. Suggestions about which FW800 PCI card? How about an internal hard drive, SATA 7200 RPM, make brand model etc?

    Running on a G5 2 gig dual
    2.5 gig ram
    10.4.2
    FCP HD
    QT 7.0.2

    Any ideas?

    TIA
