Problems with “Print to Video”
I am attempting to “Print to Video” using Final Cut Pro HD on a 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4 PowerBook.. I am using a JVC BR-DV3000 deck connected via firewire.. I go through all of the steps to Print to Video and my computer APPEARS as though it is printing the video.. When I go to review the tape to make sure it is printed I have NOTHING on my tape. I am setting an In and Out point and have tried every “logical” thing to resolve this problem.. Any ideas??

1. Make sure the DV tape does not have the “tab” slid open to record-lockout.
2. Make sure the DV deck is set for FireWire (DV, iLink, etc.) INPUT.
3. Make sure you can SEE and HEAR FCP’s output THRU the deck before you try to record.
4. If you still have a problem, then don’t use Print to Video (I never use it, anyway).
To record without it:
First, render the timeline, and perform an Audio Mixdown.Then, set the cursor at the beginning of the timeline, and start Recording on your deck/camcorder.
Play the timeline.

I’m having the same problem but I’m using a Cannon ZR200 video camera as my deck. FCP recognizes it since I can capture from it, but I just can’t print to video to it. I can’t from the life of me figure this out. I’m not an expert with FCP. Is it possible that a consumer modle video camera is not supported by FCP? Do I need a driver or something? A hammer maybe?

Yes – your suggestion works well for DV, but for HDV unfortuntaely this does not work – FCP cannot export HDV native during a timeline play – you must use print to video (edit to tape is also not supported)
This is even worse for us who are trying to edit in HD, because the number of devices which can output HD are limited. For me, i need to use HDV tape connected to an HD monitor in order to view content in high-def – so i REALLY need to be able to get my FCP content back onto an HDV tape.. (if HD-DVD existed in a standard format i could use that.. but we are still a bit away from that solution…..)
I am running Tiger 10.4.2 – 7200 RPM maxline drives, dual 2.5 with 2.5G ram… any other suggestions? is there a 3rd party tool you can use to get the content out to tape? I have posed/looked around the Apple FCP forums and it seems there are others with this problem. I have even formatted my disk and re-installed tiger and FinalCut Studio and still have the same problem.
