I’m trying to do a particular effect:

I have a map of the world that I created in Photoshop.

The continents are al grey and the background (what would be the oceans) are black.
In FCP, I will do a slow zoom until Africa is full-frame.

i want to have different video clips playing in each of the continenets and possibly a different in the black “oceans” part as well.

How can I best do this.

I dont think garbage mattes are the best solution because of the zoom and I cant seem to get travel mattes to do the trick.

    thanks!!

After Effect or Motion for something like that. Too tricky in FCP.

You can try this in FCP with a color key, but you will need to change the colors of the different continents and do a color key on each of them. If they are all grey and you do a color key on Australia, all of the continents that are grey will key out as well. If you have the australia colored green and africa colored red, you can key each of those out separately and put different videos on each continent. I agree that using After Effects or Motion will probably be easier to achieve your desired effect.
