I am having a problem with importing footage from a panasonic AJ-D455 DVCPRO deck. I am using firewire out of the deck into the Mac. I am running a G5 dual 2.7 with 8 GB ram. I have a blackmagic capture card, but it’s only the sp, so I can’t capture through that. Here is my problem:

I am setting the FCP sequence and capture setting to DV50 (NTSC). The capture window plays the footage, but as soon as I go to capture footage, the playback freezes, it captures roughly 3 seconds of footage, and then gives an error message saying that it can’t capture. Any clues on what the problem could be?

Is it better to use a capture card (ex. blackmagic decklink extreme) or firewire? I had to buy an $800 firewire card for the deck, so I’m hoping that firewire will do the job just fine. Any responses would be greatly appreciated!

Your problem is that the AJ-D455 will not play DVCPRO50 footage and so that is the first place to pay attention It needs to be either an AJ-SD93 or and AJ-SD930 with firewire cards. Start there and it should work.

    Hope that helps,

    Hi Jan
I’m capturing dvcpro 50 (pal) from a AJ-SD930, but the same thing happens to me, after roughly 3 seconds, the capture stops with a message that there might be a problem with my tape. I have tried different tapes but the same thing happens. do you have any idea?
