    hello,
I’m am just starting a project in which I am using the dsr-1500a sony deck for the first time. I am using firewire 400 to connect to final cut pro 5, and I can’t get the device control to work with the deck. The footage show up in log and capture but I have to use the deck its self to play the footage, rewind ect. I can’t batch capture or log the footage. When I switch the deck to remote I can’t play the tape with the deck or the computer. What am I doing wrong? please help me.

    thanks jimmy

I don’t have that deck, but is there any kind of menu setting to switch from RS-422 Control to Firewire control? I see from the specs that it does include RS-422 control as well.

Press the menu button. The first level toggle (up/down arrows) through SETUP MENU, AUTO FUNCTION, or HOURS METER. Select SETUP MENU (right arrow).

Within this level of the menu, use up/down to get to INTERFACE SELECT (right arrow).

At this level, toggle (up/down) to get to REMOTE I/F (select with right arrow)

Toggle this level to i.LINK (with up/down). Select with right arrow.

And of course, your device control settings in final cut would have to be Firewire.

Great advice Steve, glad you could bring up the Menu settings. I figured it would be in there somewhere.

I’m having similar problems with any deck i connect via firewire to our 2 G5’s running FCP5.0.2. It will only see a deck if it’s connected via our AJA Io. Firewire will just plain not work. I’ve trashed prefs, reset P-ram, repairpermissions, plugged and unglugged and replugged turned off and on, and nothing works. The only thing I haven’t done, is re-install FCP. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Using a DSR 1800 on one system, and a JVC mini-DV deck on the other.

i’m pretty sure that deck cannot be controlled via firewire. I have the 1500 and I have never been able to use firewire for deck control. i use a usb to 9 pin for 422 control.
