  • Adjusting video levels on input into FCP

Posted by Tim Allison on September 8, 2005 at 2:10 pm

We’re new to FCP, having worked on Media 100 for many years. In switching over, we are surprised at the lack of control FCP gives us to control our video when we digitize it from our BetaSP source tapes. Media 100 gave us at least some control over incoming video levels.

I know we can route the signal through a TBC or a proc amp, and check it with a scope. But this kind of equipment is expensive. Is there any other way? Are we missing something?

We are using FCP 5, a Kona LS board, and a UVW-1800 beta machine.

    You can.

In the capture window in the Clips settings tab you can adjust Saturation, brightness and contrast while capturing compnent. Hue of you are capturing composite.

I leave these flat and use the 3way cc to correct everything in FCP. It is a far more accurate and powerful tool.

These adjustments are greyed out for digital streams (sdi, firewire)

This is also where you can open the capture scopes from.

    it’s all there.

    David,

Are you using a Kona LS card? On our systems, all of these (potentially) nice and very useful settings are greyed out. So far, I haven’t found any way to activate these settings.

Hopefully, I’m missing something. But I don’t think Kona LS supports these input settings.

I have a KONA 2 and a Pipe Studio Card in two different suites. Are you sure you have loaded and appropriate easy set-up. From what I see on the Kona LS, this feature should be working.

Call AJA too. They have unbelievable support and will have you up and running in no time.
