Sorry for the long question list but we have 3 issues we are facing in trying to edit a documentary 24p and I’m having a hard time finding any answers through my google searching.

We shot 30 hours of footage using the Panasonic DVX100A and Canon XL2 cameras. We transfered the footage into our G5 system with FCP HD (4.5) with the capture setting set to 23.98fps Anamorphic DV NTSC and then placed the footage into a timeline with the timeline also set to 23.98. Things looked pretty good on the NTSC monitor when we played back and used these settings. However, if we stepped through the footage frame-by-frame you could see an odd “flicker” combined with what looked like a duplicate frame about every 4th frame. Is this normal?

Also, this morning, we upgraded to FCP 5 (as multi-cam will be helpful on this project and we needed Soundtrack Pro to fix some of the audio). We set up capture and sequence setting to the same 23.98. Now, when playing back the footage we see a pretty bad “flickering” on the NTSC monitor. Any idea what I may have missed? Is there something different in FCP 5 that would cause the footage to playback out to the NTSC differently?

Last, we have to integrate some home movie footage into the documentary that was all shot 29.97 DV NTSC using a consumer mini-DV camcorder. Do I digitize it as 29.97 and then somehow use Cinema Tools to pull it down to 23.98? Can I just put it in the timeline and have FCP 5 automatically convert it to the proper frame rate?

Thank you in advance for any advice.
