    Hi,

I’m just finishing a 1/2 hour doc. that I’ve cut in a HDV sequence. My delivery is anamorphic SD Digibeta which I will output through SDI with a decklink extreme.
    Here’s some questions:

Will the hardware downconversion from the decklink provide broadcast quality (would I be better to drop the finished edit into a 10bit uncompressed timeline and render?)

The programme has lots of drastic color correction. Am I better off rendering that in the HDV sequence or should I re-render to 10bit uncompressed and color correct from there?

Thanks in advance for any help.

If the Decklink operates like the Kona 2, your best bet is to let the card perform the downconvert on the way out. Much faster and cleaner than re-rendering the entire timeline in FCP.

With the K2 it’s a pristine downconvert from HD to SD on the fly.

If you didn’t capture the footage via 10bit uncompressed, then I don’t see any advantage to dropping the timeline into a 10bit timeline and re-rendering the colors.

I work with DVCPro HD for broadcast and we stay in the DVCPro HD codec from aquisition through to delivery on HDCAM.

[Walter Biscardi] “With the K2 it’s a pristine downconvert from HD to SD on the fly.”

I want to add to that I am finding the HDV edits down-converted to SD look great. and In some cases using the ZU1 that I have gotten near beta quality on the down-converted footage.

do the conversion last then you have an HDV master for the future
