Couple of quick hardware questions for all of you out there:

    1. Which of the audio control surfaces for FCP 5 (Mackie, Yamaha, Behringer, et al) are you using and are you happy with it?

    2. How many of you are using a Wacom tablet/pen for editing in FCP? Pros/cons?

    Thanks!

    1) Mackies for the entire studio. They’re really just for audio monitoring and the occasional scratch VO, but are extremely simple and reliable.

    2) I can’t use FCP with a mouse anymore – it’s too slow and pendantic. The only con is sometimes you can wiggle the pen in the wrong direction or grab some media you didn’t intend to — so Undo becomes your friend more than with a mouse. Using a Mac in general is a lot faster and less strain on your hand after a long day’s work.

Tascam FW1082 … and very happy with it (but waiting to get an MCU for a hands-on comparisson)

and yes, also using Wacom Tablet and Pen with FCP, but still getting to grips with it.
i do seem to find myself moving clips in the timeline without meaning to, but it feels quite comfortable and natural to use.

    cheers

you’ll hate all that mouse rsi once you’ve got used to the tablet. Right clicking’s a bit of a pain tho’

Tascam FW1082 here too since yesterday. I like it so far. A lot of functionality in a single package. Intuos 3 is coming soon. The pen is for Photoshop because I rarely need to mouse around FCP.

On a related question – is it possible to use control panel track-arming buttons in FCP? It seems the answer is no but is it the final answer? Could Apple add this function in the future? How about Shuttle? The Shuttle button on Tascam has no effect right now.
