  • Digitizing woes – Capture Cutting off longer clips in FCP 5

As the subject reads I am having serious troubles when capturing long clips in FCP 5. Here is what is happening:

I need to capture 40 minute clips to make a master multiclip – so I put my source Digibeta tapes in the deck and log them without incident as having the proper media start/end as well as 4 tracks of audio. I am using blackmagic’s decklink to capture the footage at DV resolution – therefore I am using the easy setup blackmagic 8-bit to DV with 1 video and 4 audio tracks.

When I select a clip and say ‘capture’, It will go for about 37 minutes and then cut out, returning to the little capture window that tells me to insert my reel and click ‘continue’.
What it should do is go until the end and tell me ‘finished’ instead of ‘continue’, and it should say ‘Done’ next to the reel instead of ‘insert reel’.

If I click cancel it will actually connect the clip I am trying to capture with the appropriate media start, however the media end will be cut off by around 3 minutes (for a 40 minute clip) or it will cut off about 30 seconds (for a 15 minute clip), so it seems to cut off by a longer amount the longer the clip is. If I capture a 8 minute clip it will capture the whole thing successfully and the blue button in the capture window will say “finished” like it should.

Has anyone else been having this problem/have any theories. I have tried a lot of trouble shooting and still can’t get it to work when I have audio tracks set to more than 2 (which I need to have)

Any suggestions would be most appreciated, as the workflow is much tougher when we can’t just make 1 multiclip from 6 master ISO cameras instead of our current work-around.

I’m counting on all you geniuses!
