  • Export to Quicktime – Dips to black and doesn’t come back ?!

I’ve just finished a FCP project about 45:00 in length. I’m trying desparately to “Export to Quicktime”. It completes the command with seemingly no problem but when I view the .mov file, at one point (about halfway through) there is a fade to black and it stays in black. I’m left with audio only for the remaining 20 min. Anybody have this happen before? Here are some details: It’s an 11 GB file and I have about 5 GB left on my HD after it finishes exporting, there are no audio or video “breaks” on the timeline, I seem to be able to export them 1 by 1, but I am using chapter markers and dumping to iDVD so I need it all as one file… I’m sure the Creative geniuses at Creative Cow can crack this baby wide open. Thanks!!

    Never had that problem before.

Have you tried exporting as a reference movie instead of a self-contained? If you are going to iDVD, a reference movie should work with the chapter marks.

Also, here is a great site if you have any questions about iDVD:

    cheers,

Thanks for the tip Tim, it worked great. I don’t know why i assumed it had to be self contained. I guess it’s just a tradeoff in rendering/burning wait times for FCP and iDVD. Oh well, lesson learned… Thanks again Tim !!
