  Exporting 16:9 Movie nightmare!

  I am exporting a 16:9 movie from FCP (DV Stream) and selecting 16:9 aspect ratio in the box, but when it has exported and I play back in QuickTime it is all squashed up in 4:3. I am doing this export so that it can be encoded in ProCoder – even the encodes on this come out in 4:3 even though all the 16:9 settings are selected. Am I missing something? The project is fully 16:9 and is all fine on the monitor.

  Check your Quick Time settings when you export.
  Goto export using Quicktime Conversion.
  Then in the Format Box choose Quicktime.
  Choose the compressor that you want in the settings tab.
  And under the “Size” tab, make sure that it is the correct 16:9 aspect ratio. This would be 864 X 486. Or 340 X 190 if you want it smaller for web…
  Export away.

  Thanks for response – I have found the way round this. Just in case anyone else has the same issue:

  Export using Quicktime compression, then DV Stream, PAL 48k, select 16:9 and encode. Export file to PC and bring into ProCoder. Adjust the size of the output window (in target settings) to whatever you want – in my case 356×200. Works really well.
