  • Updating a Master Clip => How do I update its subclips as well ?

Posted by Ace Billet on August 11, 2005 at 7:12 am

I have about 15 20Min DV-PAL clips that I’ve slowed down in After Effects.
I split these to subclips in FCP in preperation for the edit.

However, I may have to do some work on the MASTER clips in AE (the length and all will remain the same,
just trying some slowmo techniques). So I render the new files in AE again.

When I make an updated master clip, how do I tell all its subclips to link to the new one?
Should I make the new file the same name ? Or do I have to reconnect each subclip separtly ?
I’m just looking for a macro or any shortcut, because I trim down the Master Clip to a LOT of new pieces.

    cheers

I’ll bet it doesn’t work and you’ll have to re subclip the new clips… BUT it’s certainly worth a try to reconnect the old subclips… if you name the new master clip the same, and it is exactly the same frame rate and is assigned the exact same timecode, it might work trying to reconnect all the old subclips to the new file… try one and see?

Well, it does work. If you right click a Subclip and choose reconnect, it can be connected to the new master clip.
So I don’t have so subclip again the entire project. BUT what I’m looking for is something that tells FCP to take ALL
the subclips from “Master Capture 007” from that new file.

    Hmmm… so it’s manual labor I guess ..

    cheers

You can select any number of subclips and reconnect them all at one time…
