I’ve got a FCP 4.5 (G5) system with a Decklink SD card hooked up to a UVW-1800 BetaSP deck. When I try to “Edit to Tape”, the deck warns “reference signal not detected” even though I have the “genlock” on the snake bnc cable connected to the reference input on the deck. Any insight?

But do you know if that is the Decklink SD is “genlock” out to the deck or “genlock” in to the Decklink card? I am unfamiliar with the Decklink SD card, but if there is a “composite” out you could try that.

I always would use blackburst generators like Horita BSG-50 or CSG-50, but that is just me.

    Don’t worry Mr. B. I have a cunning plan…

Here’s the secret on an ol’ 1800SP deck. Take the Y component signal and run it to the Ref input on the deck…now take the Ref loop out and take a short BNC and run it to the Y input on the deck. Be sure the Ref input is not terminated by turning off the 75 ohm switch.

This will do it. Sounds funky, but even the horita black burst won’t always wlrk this way, but using Y from the board to the Ref in and looping it back to the Y input on the deck always works.
