Missing video presets in Tiger
Hi, long time no posts!
Have a problem. Have FCP 4.5, and recently went to Tiger from Panther. Did this by cloning my Start-up disk to an external firewire disk. Updated firewire system to Tiger on FW disk, and all was ok. Then swapped DW Disk into Mac, and swapped out old Panther disk to FW enclosure.
All ok, BUT, when i went to capture some DV PAL from my FW camera, now, under Tiger (QT7) my Video pre-sets are missing, and i cant see the video from the camera. I get camera control, OK, but no signal.
Set my old Panther disk as start-up, and all the video pre-sets are there, and capture is fine. Is there a simple way i can move the pre-sets from the Panther set-up to my Tiger set-up? Is FCP4.5 not compatible with Tiger? Or might it be QT7? Will i have to reinstall under Panther to get this back, or are there some application support files i can simply copy from the Panther system to the Tiger disk?
Any advice would be gratefully received!

I am having the same trouble with FCP 4.5 and Tiger. I am using a dac-100 converter as a firewire preview to a television. I have lost the connection (missing – firewire external) is the message I get in audio/video settings.
I have trashed the preference. This has not restored connection. However, my GL-2 camera is loging and capturing ok.I found this article regarding FCP 5, but we both have 4.5. I wonder if this is touching on the issue.

Jamey! Great spot! Worked a treat for me and my Canon XM-1. All the pre-sets are now present and correct and i can now capture from my camera again. This worked fine for my FCP4.5, so i guess it’s not just for FCP5.
Hope it works for your set-up too.
I definitely owe you a pint for that!

If I ever make it to London (which is on my travel list) I’ll take you up on that! I’m a big jazz fan. FYI: I looked up Jamie Cullums’ web site and I think I might buy a few songs, I like his style. Thanks for the tip.
On a technical note, out of curiousity. How do you handle the audio in a shoot like a small club? Just with built in mic system, any post audio editing to clean it up? You kind of sparked an idea to video some live music set here just to see how it comes out. . and what about low light conditions typical of a jazz club, how to you tackle that? I have a canon GL-2, which has proven to do well in low light. Just curious.

That night i just used the inbuilt microphone as it was very impromptu, and i didn’t want to tread on too many toes. Have filemd there in the past, but not when there was someone performing with a big contract, and the possible thought i was going to bootleg him!
I have successfully used a stereo mic into a mini disk recorder, and syced it in FCP. Worked well in the past. Not Hi fi, but a good idea of how it sounded on teh night in a live club.

Just used the lighting that was there, which has come out somewhat orange, as that was the main lighting that was there. Contact me via my profile if you want to check out some of the footage i took. When i get round to editing it! Work keeps getting in teh way of video fun, sadly!
And yes, if you are going to be in London on a wednesday night, we’ll have to meet in the Spice, and i can buy you that Guiness!
