I am exporting slides from powerpoint in jpeg format, 72dpi, 640×480 and they look HORRIBLE when exported from FCP. They look great in the program, but not after rendering/exporting. PLEASE HELP!

Your post doesn’t compute. Tell us again, slowly this time, what your workflow is, where things start and where you want them to go.

Are you equating exporting with playing back on an ntsc monitor? Just sounds like they need to be rendered to me. There aren’t any green lines in your timeline, right? The IO will play lots of stuff in real time it claims. But stuff like jpegs always look like junk until renered.

Why aren’t you using a better format like tif? Everytime a jpeg is exported or saved it gets uglier.

    Kristi,

Try changing your render settings to “Linear(fastest)” instead of “Normal” or “Best.” I have had to experiment with all these settings because they have a huge effect on speed changes, cropping clips, and text being rendered in FCP 5.02.

First and foremost, however, you do need to check the graphics on a video monitor and NOT the Canvas in the computer monitor.

Set your Motion Tab render setting to Best under the Video Processing tab and be sure to render the graphic.
