What would be a better way for media storage, the conventional raid setup or internal drives for the G5 (4 of them) linked together?

I have a chunk of change to buy more storage. Curently I have a 4 bay Rorke Data (4×73) box. I need more more more space. What works?

    Hello again Bob!

My favorite storage right now is Fibre Channel external. I run the Medea FCR2X (2TB) which has a ton of speed for lots of realtime from DV to HD. What I really love is that I still need to open up FCP 4.5 projects in 4.5 so I have two boot disks on my system, one Panther and one Tiger. The FCR2X doesn’t care which OS it’s operating in, it hops back and forth with no issues.

Second to that I like FW800 RAID’s though I have not tried a SATA RAID yet. A friend has one and he swears by it.

    Hope that helps!

The performance of SATA is better than FW and is probably the price/performance king right now. SATA II is here, with most drive companies having a SATA II version of their fastest SATA drives. The only sticking point with SATA II at the moment, if I understand it correctly, is that current SATA II host adapters only support one port per card on Macs, so you’ll still only get SATA I performance. It’s still faster than FW, but needs an as yet to be produced *real* SATA II card.

I’d not want the heat of extra internals burning up my Mac… G5’s were designed for only 2 drives ya know?
