  Replacing footage only

  Hey guys, I have to change the credits for a short film which I have already layed to digibeta. Is it possible to layoff the video only onto the tape to replace the credits but not affect the audio?

  I have to do it for three separate tapes and it would save me a hell of a lot of time if I can just lay down the credits instead of the whole film, but I am always weary of frame acuracy so I don’t want to lay the audio too and hope it matches up with the audio on the tape.

  Depends on the capability of the recording deck… you can just do a video insert if the video deck can do an insert edit.

  So I do not need to change any settings in FCP, it all has to do with the deck?

  1. Do you have a deck that has the ability to insert?
  (Most DV decks can NOT, but most Beta decks CAN.)

  2. Do you have your deck controlled by FCP via RS-422 (and not just FireWire)?

  If you can answer “yes” to both of these questions, then you can use “Edit to Tape” and set it to “Insert” with only the Video track selected, and perform the edit.

  If you CAN’T answer “yes” to both of these questions, then you can’t Insert edit.

  Thanks for your help…I do have rs422…and I just did a test and it worked.
