I was wondering what you guys thought was a better card for HD. The Kona 2 or Decklink HD Pro card? Is there a significant difference in the two? Do they use the DVCPro HD codec in FCP or their own?

I’m more concerned because I use a facility that uses the Kona 2 and I always deliver to them in Targa Sequence or QT file and they lay off to HDCAM for me so I don’t have to rent the equipment. But I’m heading more towards the Decklink card. Is it interchangeable or should I just stick with the Kona 2 card..

    Anyone’s input would be great.

I opted for the Kona 2 on the recomendation of an engineer friend of mine, and the fact that I was also getting the Aja Io. I also liked the available B/O box for the Kona-2. I am not big on B/O cables hanging from the back of the CPU.

I haven’t seen the quality from the HDLink but I am VERY happy with the quality of image from my Kona products and FCP.

I tested both and went with the Kona 2. Am cutting a broadcast series in HD and recently added a second Kona 2 to the shop. Outstanding quality and tech support is outstanding.

The DVCPro HD codec is Apple / Panasonic and they both use that same codec.

I am currenlty cutting a feature using the Kona 2 card and dvcprohd 1080i/24fps. It’s working extremely well.
