• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  New to Final Cut Pro

  Mac G-5 1.8 dual and FC 4.5

  After opening capture window, I have destination for video and audio to external firewire hard drive 7200 Lacie drive and set audio for stereo during capture and Video NTSC firewire.

  I start playing video from Canon GL-1 and then hit now on capture window. After 10 – 20 seconds of capture it pauses the camera and states that there were dropped frames during capture.

  On user preferences I do have report dropped frames checked.

  On system settings my memory and cache are set @ application 100% and still cache at 10%.

  The digital video I’m bringing in was orginally DVCAM footage edited on a PC then output firewire to mini dv.

  What is causing the dropped frames during capture?

  Shane’s Stock Answer #12:

  1) Do not capture to your main system drive. Since it is busy reading the operating system and application files, it will intermittently drop frames during capture.

  2) Do not under any circumstances run any anti-virus/filesaver software. Including Norton and Virex. Sure, Apple doles out Virex for free, but FCP doesn’t cooperate with it very well.

  If you absolutely feel you must keep Virex installed on your system then use Kevin’s script to shut it off before you use FCP:

  3) Check the format of the drive you are capturing to. It should be Mas OS Extended, jornalling off. If it isn’t, copy your files from it and re-initialize it. If it is any other format, you will encounter problems. If not at first, then eventually.

  4) Trash the FCP preference file:
  Home/library/preferences/FCP user data/Final cut Pro Preferences

  Hey Shane Thanks for replying.

  1) After it dropped frames to the External Firewire Drive (a Lacie d2) I decided to try the internal drive and it worked perfect.

  2) I will check for that virus software.

  3) I will check the format of the drive.
