I have been getting some mpeg2s online for work and converting them to DVD. Some of the files have no audio after importing them into FCP3. I’ve found myself having to save as avi, then importing. Any ideas why?
Does this version not support mpeg2?
    Thanx!

It is because mpeg-2 is what’s knows as a muxed file…mixed audio-video. FCP can’t work with that.

To quote a helful fellow from another forum:

“mpeg2 is not really an editable format. It works best as a final delivery format.

Use MPEG Streamclip, DVDxDV or Cinematize to covert the file to a DV/NTSC quicktime and you should have much better luck.”

    (Thanks Studio-X)

    Thanks!

Great info. I think I will purchase the cinematize software.
