I have an older G4 (gigabit ethernet, 1 Ghz processor upgrade, 1 GB RAM) and want to know if a video card upgrade is going to give me any performance enhancement in FCP. I seem to have to render everything even inunlimited RT. Will this help, or should I just give up and start saving for the G5?

    Thanks.

    > I have an older G4 (gigabit ethernet – AGP) with an upgraded processor to 1Ghz and a Gig of RAM. The video card is the stock ATI 128 Rage that came with it. I’m running 10.4.2 and FCP 4.5. My question, after reading some of the other postings is, upgrading the graphics card will essentially give me no benefits for FCP, is my only option is to get a faster machine? I know the graphics card will not speed up render and export times (those are CPU functions), but will it allow me to view more in unlimited RT? Almost everything I do ends up with red bars and needs to be rendered, and I’m not trying to do high-end motion graphics either. Do I gain anything by getting a Quartz Extreme compatible card (ATI Radeon 9000)? < The card will do you no good. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
