  • DVCPro HD Timecode Reader filter not RT?

Posted by Stuart Cummings on July 22, 2005 at 6:16 pm

We are doing some shows in DVCProHD 720P60 when we try to downconvert thru our Kona 2 card/Kbox using the timecode generator filter its not RT,sooo, i guess when its DV rez. its RTwhen its HD NO way, which really sucks because we have many filters on our footage causing long rendners even on 2 2.7 DP G5’s 5 minutes is taking 2 hours just to render these timecode ovelay videos Does anybody have a workaround or cheat on this? Thanks in advance Stuart Cummings

I take it these are for window dubs? Do you have a deck? Run your downconverted analog component or composite into a professional sd deck (beta sp, DV, Digi Beta or whatever) and the rs-422 into that same deck. Set your deck’s timecode to your final cut timecode and do an edit to tape. Make sense? If you need window burned VHS dubs, take the super out of your SD deck into your VHS.

Edit to tape (5 min) then play that tape with TC burn in turned on to VHS (5 min) = 10 minutes. Better than a 2 hour render.

If you’re trying to do a review copy for a client, say on DVD you can do this easily with a 1200A deck.

I do an Edit to Tape to the 1200A using a recycled tape, then feed that output to my DVD Recorder with the Super turned on in the Deck. This sends out a window burn to the DVD. You MUST do this Edit to Tape using HD-SDI though because if you do the edit via Firewire, you’ll get black hits on the analog outputs.

Thanks Walter , We have been renting the 1200a DvCPro Deck.We have since been turning off our Digital Film Tools Filters and our 720p & 1080i TC overlays have been rendering in about 16-20 minutes. So its not as bad as we first thought soo.. before we do a lot of color correction/effects/looks we will render our window burns . Thanks Walter and to everyone who chimned in on this one. Stuart
