  Wacom 4×5, good?

  I was contemplating buying a Wacom Graphire 4×5 to use with FCP. Is this size comfortable to use with FCP, or do people find it too small? I was trying to spend less and was therefore most interested in the 4×5 over the 6×8. Any experiences to relate?

  I use the 9×12 and would not recommend anything smaller for use with a dual monitor setup, but that’s just my opinion. I find the smaller ones are just too small, especially when trying to get in very close into objects, timelines, etc… I also make very heavy use of After Effects and Motion and find the larger tablet better suited for those too.

  You can “get away” with a graphire on a dual 23″ set up if you’re used to the wacom, but even I think that’s a tad too small. For a single 23″ it’s fine though. For a dual set up I’m using a 6×8 I think, and that’s fine.

  But Wacom’s are lovely, super and wonderful no matter what size you get!!!

  I’m using a 6×8 with a 23″ cinema display, a 19″ LCD for my bins etc, and my 14″ NTSC monitor is part of my desktop too and I get around it all fine.

  I’m using a Graphire on all three machines and I like it. I use it more as a mouse replacement than a high resolution pointing device. I run dual monitors on each setup and the Graphire works for me.

  Another 6×8 vote. It’s a perfect combination of size – not too big that it takes up too much desk space and not too small to navigate. The Intuos line is more accurate/sensitive but unless you are getting into art applications then the Graphire works fine.

  …Motion.

  Usign a tablet in Motion is really powerful. I find I can create some organic ‘motions’ that jsut don’t have the same feel as a mouse driven gesture.
