  3 seconds then nothing….

  I have a panasonic NV-OS28 dv camcorder. Someone shot some footage in the lp mode and I am having problems pulling it in. Every time I try to capture via firewire onto my MacG4 1.25 dual it I get the dropped frame message and it aborts the capture. When I turn off this feature it captures 3 seconds and aborts with a message:

  “Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. To capture as much footage as possible please capture a clip that ends before this seq. and another one that starts right after.”

  I have tried this with the clip capture and the capture now mode.

  Can anyone offer any suggestiona as to what’s happening.

  I have been able to capture the footage onto the hard drive using Vidi (free mac os x app) took it in to FCExpress fine, played it and it stops every 3 secs sorta like the capturing did?

  I have tried it with the different camera, doesnt change, same problems, been through entrie manual , no clue?

  Can your camera play this tape correctly? My DSR-11 deck cannot play back footage that’s shot in LP mode. It sounds like FCP is seeing a bad video signal so it won’t record.

  Yes, Camera is fine…

  Please note that I have grabbed the footage off the camera using Vidi, and have imported the footage into FC Express successfully. However, I cannot playback more than 3 seconds without it stopping….

  Is this likely to be drive /readerror on the drive? I have 2 brand new Lacie Porsche 250Gb 7600 hard drives linked to the Mac via FW2.

  I noticed in another Post Walter that you mention using a PCI firewire card for the mac…. Could this be the problem; create an independent bus for the firewire drives rather than use the built in FW ports?

  There is no speed advantage in accessing the data setting up both drives as a raid…. is there? I was only using one drive to capture/read data from I don’t think making a raid will solve the problem….
