What hardware in the machine affects the render speed? is it the speed of the hard disk? (I am using an external 7200 rpm firewire drive instead of the internal 5400 rpm drive in my powerbook), is it the Processor speed? or is it the amount of RAM?

FCP is strictly CPU-based. RAM and drive speed offer only incremental improvements.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    oh:-(
I just bought a PowerBook 1.67Ghz, the fastest available and upgraded the RAM as far as it would go- 2 Gigs. But I guess that won’t help
