FCP 4.5 Unexpectedly Quits while rendering
FCP 4.5 will unexpectedly quit while rendering. It used to happen every once in a while but now it happens all the time. Now other applications like Safari, Internet Explorer, and iDVD. I’m not sure if its a hardware problem or an OS problem. I’m running 10.3.9 on a dual 1 gig G4 w/ 1gb RAM (mostly aftermarket). It never did this before I updated to 10.3.9. I’m also experiencing Kernal panics while working in FCP. If FCP doesn’t unexpectedly quit while rendering, it will have a kernal panic. This is extremely fustrating, especialy when I’m trying to burn a DVD and the application will unexpectedly quit in the middle of the burning process. Any advice?

There’s your problem. I’ve not heard of many people getting any good performance with 10.3.9 and FCP 4.5. I stopped my FCP 4.5 system at 10.3.8 which is incredibly stable.

I had a feeling that was the problem. Is there an easier way to downgrade without having to re-installing the entire OS and all the applications?

If you do an Archive and Install with the original OS 10.3 install disks, this will keep your apps and all your prefs on the system during install. This does not always work reliably, but you can certainly try this method.
Install the OS, then download the 10.3.8 combo update.
