From day one I’ve been having a rather consistant problem concerning footage with sync sound. Quite often, the sound is about 4 frames out of sync after I digitize the clip and before it’s even edited into the timeline. It doesn’t happen all the time, but it happens enough that I need some advice. There’s probably a simple solution I’m unaware of. Anyway, I just ran Disk Warrior on the whole system but the problem persists. I’m currently running FCP HD 4.5 on a topped out G5 along with a full compliment of XServe RAID drives.

Connect the speakers out of the deck and not the Mac. Monitor video on the pro video montor and not the Canvas. The video monitor and speakers will be in perfect synch with DV.

I originally believed this to be the problem, but the fact is I sometimes still end up with out of sync audio on the final output to tape.

Either you’re watching / listening to the wrong sources like Kevin mentioned, or your Playback Offset is not set correctly for your system. On most DV systems, playback offset is set to 4. If it sounds like it’s four frame off, check the offset, if it’s set to 0, change it to 4.

That seems to be it! Thank y’all so much. And to think that the Apple CS guy told me that I’d have to purchase some overpriced contract to discuss anything further because I’m past my 90 day warranty deal. Thank the good lord for Creative Cow!
