i am trying to shuffle 10 bit uncompressed files from one fcp station to another, layer dealer tags at the end of the spot and then sending them back to the origination workstation while maintaining broadcast standards.

all workstations are running os x 10.3.9, fcp 4.5, qt 6.5.2, and blackmagic driver 4.7.1.

files can import and play correctly from workstation 1, but upon export from workstation 2 one of two problems happens:

    1. when using file/export/quicktime movie option in fcp, file quality degrades especially in the new text
    2. when using file/export/using quicktime conversion option fcp, file changes from 720×486 to 720×480, also file quality degrades.

the key word here is broadcast quality which means i have to maintain closed captioning on line 21, black and white levels and digibeta video quality.

has anyone had similar issues or do you know how to fix this problem?

If you choose file/exort/QuickTime Movie check on Use “Current settings” then the file should be a perfect copy of the original. Check the other boxes OFF…

If you select another codec or even the same codec there, it recompresses the media (what you want to avoid). Any other export is going to degrade the quality… because of the recompression.

THANK YOU!!! This worked perfectly. Funny how sometimes the easiest solution is the one that works.
