Animation Compressor Print to Video
Posted by Ethan Gabriel on July 8, 2005 at 7:33 pmI have an After Effects rendered video clip (used animation Codec). Plays fine in Final Cut when I change quicktime compressor settings to Animation. Cannot dub this out to tape though. Any other copressor makes the images unusable. Suggestions?
Thanks,

July 8, 2005 at 8:22 pmWhen U say it looks unusable, did you ckeck it on a monitor, or your computer screen…
I know that some graphics look horrible on the little FCP monitor, but once outputed, it look beautifull…
(also depends if you have your settings set to low or high quality preview, safe RT or unlimited)2- Why are u using Animation codec?, your doing some color conversion from that to DV, not to mention the size of your file… Have you tried using motion Jpeg, or photo Jpeg…
You should check out the book from Ben Wagonner – Compression for great digital videos… For sure, you’ll see that the animation codec is out of the way!
have fun!

July 8, 2005 at 9:33 pmUncompressed 8 bit or preferably 10 bit. you must have the drive bandwidth to play these back to tape.

July 8, 2005 at 9:36 pmUnusable looking on tape. It looks beautiful on the computer screen. Have not tried the jpeg codec. Made the original animations in lightwave and composited in after effects. Been using animation codec regularly and happy with the results. Will try the jpeg codecs and hope for the best.
I appreciate the advice!

July 8, 2005 at 11:12 pmYou also need a capture card and uncompressed video deck, like DigiBeta to output uncompressed video. Otherwise, you are stuck with the DV Codec. Hopefully, that is clear to you.
