    Hi,

I was dropping frames during playback in a sequence i had open and, after searching this forum, i was able to find that doing an audio mixdown solved the problem. It didn’t seem to change the sequence at all, so what exactly does an audio mixdown do? The sequence i have now is six tracks and after i did the audio mixdown it stayed at six tracks. I’m working on a project for a client so i want to make sure it’s not going to effect me down the road. Thanks for your help.

Using the audio mixdown command creates an invisible file within FCP. If you make any audio changes after using the mixdown command FCP deletes the file and you’ll have to mixdown all over again. That’s what happens in FCP 4.5, so I’m not sure about the most recent version of FCP v.5.
