  tracking grey scale abstract squares

  i’d like to motion track only the positions of color data in a video but the video source i want to use is not normal real world video. the video also only has 4 or 5 different shades of black in it.

  imagine a checkerboard image, where the black and white levels of the checkerboard are randomly variating every 10 frames with no smooth interpolation between the colors.

  id like to be able to for instance have a certain graphic appear over each square that is of a particular color. so lets say we have 5 shades, i’d like to have the position values of shade number 1 – and be able to apply a pattern fill or graphic on top each occurance of that shade.

  i hope i am making clear sense?

  is there a plugin that can help me?

  Why do you want to use tracking? Adjust the contrast of your footage and use it as a matte on your fill layers. I might of course misunderstand you, but this should work without any headches. Should your layers move in some fashion and you direly need the tracking, than you will have a hard time. First and foremost you’d still have to increase contrast, render the adjusted clips and use them as a source for the tracking rather than the original footage.
