June 29, 2005 at 6:14 pmYou fire your DP that did not shoot the scene with a chip chart, or, at the very least, a white card. Then, you eyeball it. That’s all you can do.

June 30, 2005 at 12:32 amAfter firing the DP, look for something that should be neutral gray and use it. You can try using the white of an eye or teeth as a starting place also, just keep in mind, this is only a starting place cause they are usually a little yellow. After picking them, you probably need to add back a little yellow.
My question, because I’m new to FCP, is how are you white balancing using the 3way color corrector? Is there an overall hue setting that I’m missing or are you balancing the highlights, mids, and lows seperately?
Thanks,

June 30, 2005 at 4:44 pmwith the three-way…
i switch to visual
i turn on the vectorscope so i can see the black levelsthen through the view menu i turn on the range check for excess luma…to make sure that everything checks out ok…
then i set the black levels and the white levels till i see a green check mark…lastly i use the eyedropper on the white dial to grab some white from the video…
this usually corrects everything fabulously…
however recently i have some shots that don’t have enough or any white…so i can’t seem to get good color..\
