My friend is an audio professional. He works with a Dual 1.8GHz PowerPC G4, Mac Os 10.3.9. He needs to buy a video capture card ’cause he receives quick time movies daily in order to do his work, mainly audio for TV commercials, and sometimes he needs to send those quicktime movies to a TV; he also have to digitize some VHS material with iMovie. What can be an inexpensive option for him to work with? He doesn’t need uncompressed or super bright colors, you know, nothing complicated, just a card that do the job.

    Thanks a lot!

    BerGo,

He should be able to do all of that via the FireWire he already has.

Can he connect a TV or a VHS deck to firewire? How?

For footage to be viewed out thru firewire, it needs to be in the DV/NTSC format. Any other QT format and you won’t see it.

That being said. If you have DV camera, you can route the FW thru that then RCA or S-VHS out from that to a VCR…or if you don’t have a DV camera, then look into the Canopus ADVC-100 converter. It runs about $265.

Otherwise, check out the decklink options from Blackmagic Design. I think they start around 2 or 3 hundred dollars. https://www.decklink.com/

There are probably some consumer grade audio and composite or S-video to/from firewire converters out there that might work.

    Thanks,
    Gary
