I set up a separate audio capture preset, just as I have in past versions of FCP for capturing just audio from a digital MD recorder. In the Capture Window, I have Device Control set to Non-controllable Device, and I’m using Capture Now. As soon as I stop the capture, I get a message that says “FCP is unable to read the file just created,” and, sure enough, if I open that file in Quicktime, it does not recognize it as a legitimate file. My capture setting matches that of my audio recorder…44.1 khz. According to the manual, this is supposed to work using the same set-up as in previous versions. So, what am I doing wrong? This has worked for me since version 1. Fortunately, I kept FCP 4.5 on the system, so I’m going back to that to capture my audio until I figure this out.

Sounds like a bug to me… report it in the feedback link in FCP.

Can anybody confirm this? Has anyone tried it?

    I wish I could but don’t have the gear…

Disconnect any video device that’s connected just to be sure that it isn’t interfearing in some way. Is there a capture card in the system? If so which and what drivers do you have installed?

I’ll try disconnect my DSR20, although it’s never caused a problem in the past. It’s just a stock G5, running Tiger. I know it has nothing to do with the OS or Quicktime, because it works in FCP4 on the same system. I’ve reported the problem to Apple. Thanks for your interest, Jerry.
