Encoding for uploading online
Hi all,
I am trying to put a small movie on my website. My project is in FCP and export it to MPEG-4, it works fine. But when I try to import that MPEG-4 to Sorenson Squeeze to convert it into a Quicktime, it doesnt work. It gives me an error that it doesnt support that video format.
For exporting, I’m using the Broadband-medium option. Are there any specific setttings I have to work with?
How should I proceed with it?
Please advise.

Im not an encoding/decoding expert, but it would seem to me if youre trying to run it through sorrenson to get a .mov out, why not just export to .mov?

The reason being the file size comes out too big. its like 300megs.

Use different compression settings in FCP to reduce the file size. I can look them up in the morning when I have a mac near me if you need more detail on how to do it.

don’t use quicktime movie export but quicktime conversion. chose quicktime movie, mpeg-4 as your codec and whatever settings you need. for even better results download the 3ivx codec. the results are playable by the default qt codec but the encoding quality is higher plus you get great 2-pass encoding.

Compressing a compressed file is never a good thing.
I’d export out of FCP using Quicktime Movie with “current settings.” You will get a very large file since there won’t be any additional compression.
You then take THAT file and put it in Squeeze and compress to the format and size you want.
