Tiger and Firewire AV devices missing
Hey everybody,
Haven’t found anything anywhere on this, but I’m the second one to call Promax about the problem and they couldn’t help. I’m running FCP5 on a dual 2G g5. I just upgraded to Tiger and neither FCP or After Effects can “see” my canopus or DV deck. The odd thing is, in log and capture I can control the deck and shuttle around, but get no video or audio. The device is listed as missing. This is the same for video output in both applications. I switched devices, cables, ports… did the pref trash and pram etc… Any thoughts? Anyone else experiencing this problem? Thanks!

What’s the deck in question?
And probably more important, how did you upgrade to Tiger? If it wasn’t an erase and install, then reload of applications from the ground up… you might be asking for problems. some of these installs done as an “upgrade” work OK apparently, but a lot of installs done this way aren’t working very well.
Might trash your plist, and FCP preferences and things might get better, but possibly not.
Tiger is a huge upgrade from Panther, so figure whenever you do an upgrade like that, you should perform a clean install of the OS and reinstall of all apps.
I’m using a second hard drive for this in fact, and still running Panther on one drive, and Tiger on the other until I’m quite confident of trashing the old OS etc.. and going FCP 5 all the way as it were…

Yeah, that’s what I was afraid of. Thanks. It’s 2 devices that are not showing, a Canopus ADVC-100 and a Panasonic AG-2500 DV deck.

Most likely you upgraded with a FW device hooked up to your Mac. Big No No. Un hook any and all FW devices from your Mac and reinstall Tiger. Bet ya that cures it.
