Any using DLT successfully? My horror story with DLT and SCSI and G5 is nearly endless. Trying to scrap it all and start over with firewire and AIT. Will this get me off the slippery slope….or will my descent continue?

    TIA

Yes, this will get you off the slope.. However, you won’t be able to do a DLT.. You will, however, be off the slope.

Getting off the slope is very important. DLT doesn’t work anyway.

These tape drive systems are extremely fragile and dust just kills them. They have to be kept in clean rooms.

I use to work on a Media100 system with a MicroNET RAID tower with a AIT backup drive. I when through 3 drives in 4 years. The last time I would keep one of the failed drives and used it as a dust plug, keeping the working drive in a safe place. I would only plug it in to backup or restore and then out it came.

I would steer clear of any kind of data tape backup system.
