  After Effects incorrectly thinks footage as PAL

  I posted earlier thinking this was a Magic Bullet problem but now I think AE7 is the culprit. Here’s what’s up:

  I went into AE7 to revise a project completed earlier this week and when I try to de-interlace with Magic Bullet 2.1, Auto-Setup doesn’t respond; under messages is the warning “Magic Bullet cannot be used to convert PAL video to 29.97 fps.

  When I check the footage it’s all 29.97 fps 720X486, and besides, I successfully used Magic Bullet on this footage earlier. No new software has been added and I can’t think of any other major changes to the system. This happened a few weeks ago and I solved it be reloading AE7, but obviously that is not a viable option if this problem keep recurring. Help anyone???

  Try deleting the preference files before trying a re-install

  Dumb question. I know how to delete preferences on the Mac but where do I find the preference file in XP?

  Update to this issue. So far I have:

  Re-installed AE7 (deleted old preferences)
  Re-installed Quicktime 7.1
  Rolled back to Quicktime 6.5
  Re-re-installed Quicktime 7.1
  Re-Installed Magic Bullet 2.1

  But still no luck. Anyone?????

  If you open the clip in quicktime, and then check the movie properties, does it list PAL ????

  The prefs are in a hidden folder, so you have to open the C:drive, click on tools then folder options, then view, then show hidden files and folders and then aaply. Close this window, then go to:
  c: documents and settings-username-application data-adobe….in there will be a folder for After Effects 7.0. Delete the folder.

  The file has no indication that it’s PAL in the Quicktime Movie Properties or Information windows; besides I has no problems with these file before yesterday, and I get the same warning on every file I use (including thaose I didn’t encode).

  At this point I’m so frustrated. I don’t even know where the problem is orginating…

  So what do you see in QT Player, cmd+I and cmd+J?
  -frame size?
  -frame rate?
  -codec?

  When you import the clip, how does AE (not MB) interpret it?
  What is your project time base?
  What is your comp frame rate?

  Looks like AE is fine with the footage — MB is the issue. Sorry if that was obvious to you, but it wasn’t to me. Since I don’t know MB, I (at least) can’t help any further. Sorry.

  Have you contacted the MB people?

  Actually I originally thought the problem was MB but I began to wonder. Yeah, I contacted MB but got no replies
