Hi there you fcp geniuses. I’ve recently had my old reliable computer stolen. boo hoo. My new computer dual 2.7. Yee ha. Has FCP4.5 HD on it (4 with upgrade).

My problem is: I want to export mpeg2 but don’t want to use compressor. My mpeg2 option in the quicktime conversion pulldown is missing. Could this be a tiger thing?

    I need help.
Anyone out there with any suggestions?

    Kind regards,
    Jim Simpson

Ya, Mpeg2 didn’t make the FCP team this year. I talked to apple and they are moving all mpeg compressions to compressor now. It is only a problem on Tiger “fresh” installs. If you upgrade you can still use mpeg2 as an export out of QT (not FCP5 though – it comes up with a “you need to render window” even though nothing needs rendering.) Sorry to break it to you but looks like you should make compressor your new friend. Compressor 2 seems to be good so far.

    Good luck,
    mike

There is a fix for this. Find a computer with the working mpeg2 export. Go to System/Library/Quicktime and copy QTMPEGExport.component. Paste the item in the computer with the missing feature. Restart FCP5!

I did as you suggested. Everything looked promising but I got a serialization error on DVD Studio. I upgraded to DVD Studio through the Final Cut 4 to FCP Studio route. Could this be my issue?

    Thanks
